The year 1982 was the 82nd year of the 20th Century and the 982nd year of the 2nd Millennium. It is the most prominent year featured in Series 2 of Ashes to Ashes. It is also the year of Operation Rose - a gold bullion robbery which is a story arc in Series 2 - and the Falklands War, which is a continuous reference in Series 2.

After failing to prevent the death of her parents and return to the year 2008, DI Alex Drake had no choice but to stay in 1981. It was not until 1982 that Drake received signs that she could return home to her daughter. (A2A Series 2: Episode 1)

Second Shooting of Alex Drake[]

Whilst returning to 2008 from her coma, DI Drake was accidently shot by DCI Gene Hunt which sent her into another coma in November 1982 (A2A Series 2: Episode 8). The nurses who cared for her accused Hunt of purposefully shooting her which forced him into exile to the Isle of Wight and Costa Brava, Spain. It was not until February 1983 that Alex would return from 2008. (A2A Series 3: Episode 1)
