The year 1980 was the 80th year of the 20th Century and the 980th year of the 2nd Millennium.
Events[]
"Death" of Sam Tyler[]
In 1980, Sam Tyler finally accepted his death (in the 'mainstream') and asked to go to "the pub" with DCI Gene Hunt. Hunt agreed and took Sam and his wife Annie Cartwright to the pub, where they moved on into the next life. Tyler's departure was covered up with the story that he had driven his car into the river, after a high speed car chase in pursuit of some jewellery thieves earlier that day, although the nature of the report would come back to cause Hunt problems when Alex Drake started digging. Jackie Queen, a friend of Tyler and Hunt, wrote Tyler's obituary for the Manchester Gazette. (A2A Series 3: Episode 8)
Transfer to Fenchurch East[]
In February 1980[1] after Tyler's "death", Hunt and his colleagues DS Ray Carling and DC Chris Skelton transferred from Manchester to the Fenchurch East police station CID of the Metropolitan Police Service in London (A2A Series 1: Episode 1). Months after they had transferred, Sharon Granger joined Fenchurch East as a WPC, after being stabbed and killed in the year 1995 and waking up in Gene Hunt's World. (A2A Series 3: Episode 8)
